Colchester United boss Aidy Boothroyd was quick to place a positive spin on last night’s uninspiring draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.

The U’s failed to produce any real clear-cut chances, in front of the Sky TV cameras, as the U’s and Seagulls played out a 0-0 draw.

A honest Boothroyd, post-match, admitted: ‘We didn’t deserve to get anything out of the game.’

The U’s manager jokingly spoke about how he’d rather have been at home, in the warm, watching EastEnders during the first half – it was that bad! Although the introduction of speedy duo Kevin Lisbie and Ashley Vincent added slightly more attacking flare for the U’s during the second-half, the game ended even.

‘We never really got going and they did better than us, but when you consider they have beaten Charlton away and come within 90 seconds of beating Leeds away then you have to say they are no mugs,’ added Boothroyd, speaking about the Seagull’s impressive away form – that of a promotion-chasing side.

Despite missing out on the chance to edge closer to the top two of League One, the U’s are still in a healthy position as the business end of the season comes around.

He concluded: ‘The important thing is that we played as bad as that and still kept a clean sheet. This is perhaps a game we will reflect on and think we did well to get away with a point.’
