Pair Not Wanted By U’s

COLCHESTER UNITED boss Paul Lambert has confirmed that forgotten U’s duo Phil Ifil and Medy Elito can leave North Essex.

The Scot has revealed that the U’s have circulated their names in the hope that interest from other clubs will develop in them. So far, due to long contracts, the Weston Homes Community Stadium exit door has remained relatively quiet.

Since Lambert arrived, in October last year, Ifil, 22 and Elito, 18, have featured only a handful of times between them.

‘They were both seriously lacking in fitness towards the end of last season,’ the U’s boss said in the EADT.

Former U’s chief Geraint Williams swooped to sign Ifil, from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur, for a rather exquisite £350,000 fee 18-months ago. While Elito, a product of the U’s YTS, impressed largely at the back end of the 2007/08 season but things have gone downhill since.

Lambert stressed: ‘I don’t want players here who are just in the comfort zone. Whether they (Ifil and Elito) will go depends on whether their agents are any good.’

Despite the U’s best efforts to offload the pair, nothing has happened yet.

‘Circulars were sent out to clubs saying that they were available, but we had nothing come back,’ he added.

So are you glad the U’s want Ifil and Elito out of the WHCS?
