Colchester have confirmed on the Official Website Elliot Parish has signed a permanent contract with the club.

After spells with Aston Villa, Cardiff, Bristol City and last season Blackpool, Parish became a free agent this summer but has been on trial with us, which has resulted in a one-year contract at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Parish is at the stage of his career where he needs regular first-team football, he’s only managed around 50 appearances in his career to date but it’ll always be harder in a specialised position like a ‘keeper wouldn’t it.

At 25 he wouldn’t be at the stage where a ‘keeper is considered ‘at his prime’ so his best years, theoretically, should be ahead of him and maybe at the WHCS.

That being said he’ll have to compete with Chris Lewington initially and then regular no.1 Sam Walker once he’s fully fit after a knee injury.

Chris Humes will have some good competition for places this season with the goalkeeping departments looking very strong now.
