Dean Gerken will be staying at Colchester United it seems after Charlton manager Phil Parkinson rejected speculation that he will sign the goalie.

The Chilton boss gave Gerken his debut for the U`s and this fanzine reported the story linking him with a move yesterday.

Gerken`s future is far from clear-cut, although he did regain his place in goal under manager Paul Lambert at the end of last season.

The talk about Gerken possibly leaving began when Lambert first started chasing ex-West Ham and former Colcheter loanee, Jimmy Walker last spring.

Mark Cousins has also signed a new contract and now wants to stake his claim in United`s XI, following a run of games as Lambert searched for his best stopper.

But former U`s boss Parkinson, speaking in South London Press, said: “I`m aware of Dean but he`s under contract and we have two very good young goalkeepers here at Charlton anyway.”

So that`s the end of that… isn`t it?
