Perkins Request Piles Pressure On U’s

Colchester United midfield-man David Perkins has sadly asked for a move away from the club.

Caretaker manager Joe Dunne revealed the request from the diminutive midfielder shortly after today’s loss at MK Dons.

He confirmed to the EADT: ‘David wants to leave the club. If someone comes in then he can go, but hopefully he will change his mind.

It is understood the former Rochdale man is keen to find regular first-team football, with a move back North his preference.

‘David is still giving 100% to the cause, but he says that he wants to be playing regular football,’ Dunne, who named Perkins on the bench this afternoon, explained.

Dunne comically added: ‘He handed in his transfer request last night, as if I didn’t have enough things on my plate!’

The 27-year-old enjoyed a mixed maiden campaign with the U’s, but overall impressed fans, who will be disappointed at the news, with his action-packed performances.

Perkins has compounded the U’s turmoil in a week of uplift at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, which has seen the U’s management team leave, along with skipper Dean Hammond.

The U’s are now likely to add another central midfielder to their squad before the Summer Transfer Window draws to a close – after losing Johnnie Jackson, Hammond and Perkin’s likely departure.
