Colchster United striker Clive Platt has denied rumours that he is set make an instant return to the Championship, by leaving North Essex.

Vital Colchester reported last week that Championship duo, Sheffield United and Norwich City were keen on the target man, to read the article click here. Platt joined the U’s for £300,000 last July, and scored eight goals last season as the U’s were relegated.

He told The Colchester Gazette: ‘I’ve heard absolutely nothing about that.

‘And nothing like that has been said to me by my agent or Colchester United.

‘I still have another two years left on my contract and I’m perfectly happy where I am.’

However, Platt refused to rule out leaving if the deal was right.

‘At the end of the day if something is put in front of you and it is going to benefit you then I would obviously want to take a good look at it,’ the Wolverhampton-born front-man continued.

‘But as far as I am concerned I’m ready to get going again and kick off the new season in the new stadium.’
