Platt Picks Pockets As U`s Salvage Unlikely Draw

Colchester United salvaged a point against Exeter thanks to two goals late in each half by Clive Platt.

The workman-like forward added to his handful of goals for the season, finding the net for the first time in the league since the opening day.

A poor Colchester side were lucky to salvage anything from the game but recorded this draw to stay fourth and despite a sodden pitch which nearly lead to a postponement.

That substitute Medi Elito exited the fray prenatally thanks to a rash tackle did not help Colchester`s cause.

Still, boss Aidy Boothroyd has only tasted defeat once as boss while Platt, who was assisted by Marc Tierney and then with a delightful ball from Steven Gillespie, will be hoping for a run of goals following his salvo.

The opposition`s goals came from Stuart Fleetwood, who converted a third chance in the opening six minutes and then via a stunning Ryan Harley free-kick that hit the underside of the bar and stunned a shell-shocked Weston Homes crowd.

Full-time: 2-2.
