MK Dons forward Clive Platt, scorer of 18 goals in League One side last season, is due to talk contract terms with Colchester United this week according to Sky Sports, after a reported fee of around £300,000 was agreed for the player.

Platt, who at 6`4 is a frontrunner in the mould as Chris Iwelumo, was reportedly left behind to close a deal with Colchester as new manager Paul Ince took his MK side to pre-season training in Portugal.

The deal, if completed, will smash Colchester`s previous transfer record by some margin.

Local newspaper The Milton Keynes Citizen reported that Platt “was keen to try his luck at a higher level” and has become a priority target at Colchester after last season`s surprise package in the Championship failed to secure the services of Ray Jones.

That is understandable, given that the club now have only one recognised striker at the club following Jamie Cureton`s exit to Norwich City.

£300,000 is not alot at the end of the day. He may be a better player for us then you also, remember Cureton came to us after being relegated with Swindon and look what he went on to acheive!

Platt was good with us last season but he is a league 2 player that has gone past his sell by date now, he has never scored 18 goals in a season before in his career and he only did it in league 2 there is no way Platt can have the same sort of form in the championship if he does i will be very surprised.
