Manger Geraint Williams has heaped praise onto Colchester`s 6ft 4in target man Clive Platt following the 3-2 victory over promotion hopefuls West Brom. Williams called him “unplayable” at his best.

Platt, the U`s record signing, following his £300,000 move from League Two outfit Milton Keynes Dons this summer, has begun life well at Layer Road, finding the net three times so far for his new club.

The towering striker, brought in as a replacement for Scotsman Chris Iwelumo who joined Charlton, also missed three games through suspension after picking up a red card in pre-season, so has done well to adapt.

The 29-year old is a fantastic aerial presence for the U`s when attacking and defending from corners. He has also forged a profitable partnership with fellow summer signing Kevin Lisbie.

After the weekend`s game, U`s boss Williams told The Evening Gazette: “Clive Platt was unplayable. When he plays like that, he`s better than anything in this division.”
