Colchester’s Cilve Platt believes new Leyton Orient boss,Geraint Williams deserves to succeed in management.

The big striker told the East Anglian Daily Times yesterday that Williams was, “a great bloke and a lovely guy.”

Williams was appointed at Brisbane Road last Tuesday and went on to secure a crediable draw against Tranmere Rovers.

Platt said: “It was Johnnie Jackson who told me the news in the car on the way to the ground.

“He’s a football man through-and-through, and he deserves to be in the game.”

Platt would have been back at the weekend for the U’s after suspension but for the proponent.

“Obviously,I’m here because the club hasn’t performed as they expected this season,” said Williams on the O’s Official Site
last week.

He added: “There are 17 [now 16] games left, and 51 points to play for, and we want to get as many as we can to keep ourselves in the division.”

Williams, who became Colchester’s boss in 2006 after Phil Parkinson’s shock defection to Hull City, enjoyed two mixed seasons with the club. He will go on record as the man responsible for leading United to thier higest all-time finish.
