Almost seventy percent of voters in the site`s most recent poll say they are happy with the appointment of John Ward.

Robbie Cowling`s third appointment as Chairman was his first internal promotion and the job offer stopped Ward following Boothroyd to his new job at Championship Coventry.

Ward is a highly experienced figure within modern football but despite earning his spurs at a litany of clubs, including Aston Villa, Watford and Wolves (assistant) and Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham Town and Carlisle (manager).

Ward cuffed away suggestions of his motivation for the role given his age – he`s nearly 60 – and has so far sprinkled the squad with several promising signings, despite publicly-known budget cuts to the playing staff allocation this season.

Ward has coped with aplomb considering Cowling`s insistence that Boothroyd had already spent money won by the club for Paul Lambert`s tribunal deal over his Norwich switch this time last year.

Equally, Clive Platt`s departure to Coventry in late pre-season has thus far not caused a major problem.

Although Ward refuses to set targets for the season ahead, he remains pragmatic and looks a sound choice by the board. He will also have appeased loyalists to the club by appointing the experienced if underrated Kem Izzet in the capacity of club captain.
