Former Derby and Sheffield United forward Chris Porter, brought to Colchester by Tony Humes last season, has been confirmed as our new captain.

Magnus Okuonghae and David Fox, who wore the armband last season, both moving on this summer to Luton and Crewe, respectively, had left Humes looking for a new skipper and we had several in the running for this.

Ahead of the West Ham friendly on Tuesday the Official Website confirmed the 31-year-old had been given this.

George Elokobi could have got this upon his return to the U’s, although with some injury issues at times maybe not the right option afterall, with former Yeovil captain Joe Edwards the one I thought might get the nod?

Porter, not lacking any experience at all and in fairness a good leader, has got this with Alex Gilbey, who had captained us at times last season too, named as his vice captain.
