The U’s squad made their way over to Dublin across the weekend to begin their pre-season training in earnest on Monday as the Irish management duo of Joe Dunne and Mark Kinsella went back to their roots.

We’ve been away for the past few weeks here at Vital Colchester and plenty has been going on at the U’s as the new season appears ever closer, including the release of the League One fixture list yesterday, pairing up the U’s with a trip to nearby Gillingham on the opening day.

Mark Cousins, Freddie Ladapo and Jabo Ibehre have all signed up new deals to extend their time in north Essex, whilst MK Dons youngster Mason Spence has been snapped up for the U’s development squad in recent weeks too.

The summer has seen the sad departure of local-born John White who, after a lengthy spell with the club, has had to reject the new contract offer and seek pastures new.

We’ll be bringing you full stories on all of the above events and more in the following days as we begin to get excited about the upcoming campaign – it’s only 44 days away now!
