Colchester allowed a lead to slip as a highly entertaining league 1 encounter, full of goals and chances, eventually ended with us beaten.

An unbeaten home record, dating back to December last year, remains in place but Preston North End were pushed all the way by Colchester at Deepdale on Saturday afternoon, the home side running out 4-2 winners in the end.

Preston missed an early chance to take the lead with Rhys Healey (16), marking his full debut after scoring from the bench on his debut last weekend, punishing them, and Paul Gallagher for this.

After Preston ‘keeper Jamie Jones had saved Alex Gilbey’s effort the Cardiff City loanee followed up to put us ahead.

Two-goals in four-minutes tough turned the game in Preston’s favour as Scott Wiseman (21) and then, after defensive hesitation from Ben Gordon, Alan Browne (25) scored.

A stunning Gilbey (37) 25-yard effort that flew past Jones made sure that we went into the break level at two-two.

Preston were quick out the traps in the second half with Gallagher (47) beating Walker from distance this time.

Chris Humphrey (57), after Preston had also hit the cross bar, made it four ahead of the hour as he ran onto Gallagher’s through ball to beat Sam Walker and give the home side some breathing space.

Had Callum Robinson effort gone in, instead of hitting the bar and/or Preston ‘keeper Jones saved not saved to deny Freddie Sears maybe we would have got something from this game instead of losing four-two?
