Reaction: Players Have Been Phenomenal!

Caretaker manager Joe Dunne refused to criticise his Colchester United players following the U’s defeat to Leeds United.

In a tough couple of weeks off the field – with the departure of boss Paul Lambert + skipper Dean Hammond – the U’s players have been a credit to the club with a number of battling performances.

‘The extreme pressure we have come under in the last couple of weeks has taken its toll in the last two games. I have no criticism of the players though, they have been phenomenal,’ Dunne told the EADT after the U’s 2-1 home loss.

Dunne is set to take charge of his last U’s game on Tuesday night, away to Gillingham, with a new manager set to be in place for next weekend’s tough trip to Southampton.

He added: ‘Unfortunately we just came up short today. We’re talking inches and millimeters in the last couple of games but I’m pretty confident we can turn the corner.’
