Reid Ruled Out For Season Start

Paul Reid is still not fit and will miss the start of next season, opening against Norwich City.

The defender damaged his keen ligaments in March and is having a tough time making a recovery.

“Unfortunately, I have broken down again,” the 27-year-old told the EADT today. “I had been working my way back, allowing my leg muscles to strengthen again during May. I had a lot of June off, but when I came back the knee started to hurt a bit.”

His immediate absence should mean chances for Colchester`s newest defensive signings, Magnus Okuonghae and Lee Beevers.

Since regular right-backs, Phil Ifil and John While, appear out-of-favour at the Community Stadium, however, it is possible Beevers will get a chance at right back. He played most of his last season at Lincoln in that position.

Although Reid has only aggravated the injury he sustained four months ago, medical consultants have warned him against rushing back to first-team football too soon.
