With icy temperatures and snow falling around the UK currently, there will be plenty of U’s fans forgiven for passing up the long trek up to the north East this weekend as the U’s take on Hartlepool.

However, there are no such concerns from the ground staff at Victoria Park.

Speaking to the official club website, groundsman Dave Brown said: ‘I’ve pulled the covers on to the goalmouths this morning but we’ll just have to wait and see what comes down.’

‘The forecast shows that it’s not expected to get so cold that we should have any problems with the pitch freezing so at the moment I’ve no real concerns.

‘We’ll obviously keep an eye on how things develop and change as the week goes on and react accordingly but right now there doesn’t seem too much to worry about.’

With the Monkey Hangers currently sat at the foot of the League One table, the game is the ideal opportunity for Joe Dunne’s men to stop the nine game losing streak they are currently on.

That said, Hartlepool have shown signs of life in recent weeks and it really is a must-not-lose fixture for the U’s.
