Scunthorpe United have pulled out of the race to sign U’s transfer-target, Steven Gillespie.
Over the weekend, Gillespie’s current club, Cheltenham Town, rejected another bid from an unnamed League One club. Carlisle United are believed to be the mystery bidders. However, Town did reveal the bid was of £350,000 with a £50,000 add-on.
Following this news, The Iron have confirmed that they will not be pursuing their interest in the 16-goal hit-man.
Scunthopre boss Nigel Adkins told The Scunthorpe Telegraph: ‘Cheltenham have turned down a bid of £400,000 from one club – and we won’t be going any higher than that.
‘We are, as we always have been, looking elsewhere.’
So does this news path the way for the U’s and Carlisle to battle-it-out for the 23-year-old…

400k plus would seem a little expensive considering we need wide players as a priority
Well we have only got three strikers, including Guy who I’m not sure has a future with the U’s. But I do admit we’re in need of some wingers!
