Colchester United centre-back Chris Coyne believes it is vital that the U’s keep a settled side next season, after injuries have blighted the U’s campaign.

Injuries have forced Geraint Williams to continuously change his starting XI, especially at the back where seven players have featured at the heart of defence. Coyne and loanee Matt Heath have impressed at centre-half, only conceding one goal when they have played together.

The U’s record signing, Coyne, told The Colchester Gazette: ‘It’s very hard for a manager when he hasn’t got that continuity in selection because of injuries.

‘Centre-half is a position where you build continuity and not being able to do that has been difficult,’ he highlighted the key of continuity in defence.

‘But it’s more about the second week of August now that we’re looking towards.

‘We will keep working hard and we won’t stop doing that until the end of the season.’
