Shrewsbury Town manager, Paul Simon, has moved to clear speculation that Grant Holt is leaving despite Colchester`s £250,000 bid.

Sky Sports reported this morning that Colchester United had offered cash for the League Two hot-shot, just a day after Simon had told the same news source two of this other star players, Ben Davies and Kelvin Langmead would be staying. Colchester are reportedly keen on signing Langmed.

“I don’t know of any definite League One interest in either of the players in question and I believe there has been a lot of talk and hype around the situation,” said Simon yesterday.

This afternoon, though, following a report that the U`s want to prize 28-year old Holt from New Meadow, Simon has moved to calm the talk.

He told Shrewsbury’s official site: “There have been a number of rumours circulating about Grant leaving the club but I am still planning for Grant Holt to be wearing our number 16 shirt next season.

“We are in the fortunate position at this football club where financially we don’t have to sell.”

So it looks like the U’s will have to up thier bid if they are serious about attaining the goalscorer.
