Colchester United have officially named Chris Coyne as their new club captain.
The Australian international takes over the reigns from Karl Duguid, who recently joined Plymouth Argyle. The ex-Luton Town man has been given the armband ahead of Johnnie Jackson.
U’s chief Geraint Williams told CU-FC.com: ‘With Karl leaving after his long service, we had to appoint a new skipper. We have chosen Chris and he is delighted to accept.
‘He has been a leader on and off since he joined and I am sure that the rest of his players will give him their full support.’
Coyne, who also skippered Luton, said: ‘It’s a great honour and obviously I will do my best for Colchester United,’ he said.
‘It is a position that I relish both on and off the pitch and I am happy to be the voice of the dressing room when we need to liaise with the manager.
‘There are a lot of leaders in the team and that can only be a good thing and, even with the armband, I won’t do anything differently, I will always be a voice on the pitch as well.’
