A brace from Jamie Cureton ensured that Colchester beat Southampton 1-2 in front of the Sky cameras this evening at St Mary’s.

It had been 52 years since the U’s had beaten the Saints on their home turf, and after the horror show at Pride Park a fortnight earlier, the U’s were determind to prove to the wider TV audience that they can play much better.

The U`s were in front early on as Cureton picked up the ball in midfield linking up with the ever busy Kem Izzet who layed the ball off to Chris Iwelumo who in turn squared the ball into the box for the on rushing Cureton to side foot home.

Southampton levelled midway through the half after Colchester were denied a stone wall penalty after Garcia had been bought down by both defender and goalkeeper only for Referee Mr Kettle to wave away the appeals.

A centre by Garcia after beating Gareth Bale was turned in over his shoulder by Cureton who made has missed easier chances this season.
