Anthony Wordsworth, as he told The Gazette, has not been affected by the speculation surrounding his Colchester future of late.

23-year-old Wordsworth has been linked with a move away from The U’s before the closure of the January transfer window, although this failed to materialise.

This has not troubled him though as he is happy where he is and is happy to feel wanted: ‘the speculation didn`t affect me at all. The gaffer told me that they had received a bid and the chairman rejected it.

‘I told them it wasn`t a big worry and I played the next day against Leyton Orient.

‘The gaffer said that one day the day may come where I move on but that he wanted me to stay.’

At this present moment in time the midfielder, who is Colchester’s top scorer, is just happy to be playing regularly after an in-and-out season last time round.

What his future will bring will be decided another time, and he is not thinking about this now: ‘it’s nice to feel wanted and I`m playing week in, week out at Colchester.

‘Last season I was in and out of the team and it`s important to me to be playing every week.

‘If the chance does come along in the future, that will be down to the manager and the chairman.

‘But I’m very settled and happy at Colchester.’
