Colchester United could move into their new stadium as planned for the summer of 2008 after Councillor John Jowers declared over the weekend: “We are now 95%-plus likely’ to have a football stadium at Cuckoo Farm in time for the 2008/09 season.

The news is a great boost for everyone involved with Colchester and the surrounding community, especially after recent fears that the development had been stalled due to a lack of signed paperwork, which one project leader was move enough to label as “embarrassing.”

Following the highly publicized row over the deals, last Saturday`s East Anglian Daily Times reported that a new management company will be formed to run the development.

As senior councillor Jowers explained: “We are on target – we now have to agree exactly what we want.”

The package now means that physical building work and the building of the £14 million development can begin next month.
