The expectancy is that Femi Akinwande will have to wait a while for his first-team chance at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, however he now has this chance with Colchester handing him a contract.

His arrival, confirmed on the Official Website, has seen him link up with the Development Squad on a permanent basis following a trial spell with the U’s.

Akinwande, previously with Millwall – who of course hammered Colchester at the weekend, impressed enough during his trial from Maldon & Tiptree to get himself a U’s deal until the end of the season.

Should he impress the club, and in particular coach David Wright, he’ll get a longer-term deal you suspect but time will tell.

Wright has previous with the striker as his boss before when he scored 12-goals in 18-matches.
