The Official Website, ahead of the weekend, confirmed Marvin Sordell had signed for the club.

Sordell, once so highly rated at Watford and part of the GB Team at the 2012 Olympics as a Bolton player, has signed for Colchester until the end of the season following his Burnley release recently.

Burnley allowed the 24-year-old, who had been part of the Clarets’ squad in the opening stages of the season, to leave Turf Moor ahead of the transfer window closing as he was released from his contract so he could find a new club outside of the transfer window as a free agent.

He did this by arriving at the Weston Homes Community Stadium ahead of the three-three draw with Chesterfield at the weekend, commenting on this move to the BBC.

Sordell admitted he could have stayed with Burnley but wouldn’t have been involved, like he will be with Colchester, so he made that move with him not worried about dropping into League 1 to do this with the U’s.

‘The choice was stay at Burnley and probably not play, or come and play some football.’

‘I’m not one of those who’s bothered whether he’s playing in front of 90,000 like I did for Team GB or 3,000 or 5,000 at Colchester. I’m like a five or 10-year-old who just wants to play football. Why wouldn’t you want to play?

‘I’ve had some knockbacks in my career but it’s how you pick yourself up. I’ve come here to play football, enjoy my game and help Colchester United. If I can use my experience of playing at the top level and that helps the younger players then that would be great.’

Sordell, and the U’s of course, will be hopeful he can rediscover the form he had with Watford as the former England U21 international has struggled since leaving for Bolton and scored only once in 20 appearance for Burnley.
