Symons Says He’ll Plug Gaps

New Colchester number two, former Manchester City, Fulham & Portsmouth defender Kit Symons has promised to all he can to stop the side conceding so many goals at the foot of the Championship.

After ending a seven-year spell with Colchester`s Championship rivals Crystal Palace following the sacking of Peter Taylor this season, at a club where he also had two spells as caretaker manager, Symons joined Welsh compatriot Geraint Williams in Essex.

His first task will be preventing Colchester from lacking more goals than they already have this season; the U`s have the worst goals against record in the division so far.

Symons, who placed more than 500 games at the highest level for both club and country in defence, has earmarked it as a priority.

‘I hope I can help in a lot of ways,’ he told the club’s website upon his arrival as replacement to Micky Adams recently.

‘I was a defender in my playing days and the defence is one thing that needs to be tightened up a little bit.’
