Former Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd will today be unveiled as Colchester United’s new boss, according to a report in the latest edition of the Sun.

The 38-year-old’s name has been thrown around ever since the departure of Paul Lambert, to Norwich City, and he is a strong favourite among fans. Ronnie Moore, Colin Calderwood and Mark Kinsella are also in the running for the post – with all thought to have been interviewed.

Boothroyd was spotted at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Saturday, for the game against Leeds, by a number of fans, adding fuel to the fire surrounding his probable appointment.

Yesterday, as covered on Vital U’s, Peter Taylor, of Wycombe Wanderers, was pushed into the frame by the same newspaper.

It has previously been believed that the new man would be confirmed tomorrow, after the U’s match away at Gillingham tonight, but an announcement could now be made earlier than expected.
