It probably doesn’t have quite the appeal to many it once did (too many devalue it) but the FA Cup is still regarded by many as ‘the best cup competition in the world’, Colchester now enter the competition.

Saturday saw a few FA Cup upset, Sunday lunchtime has the potential for another at Privett Park as Colchester seek to make sure Gosport Borough don’t manage this.

Gosport are fortunate enough to be able to call upon a near enough full strength squad as this seek this upset. Captain Sam Pearce (suspension) is out though but him aside it looks good.

Magnus Okuonghae (hamstring) looks set come back in but Alex Gilbey (suspension) sits out. Elliott Hewitt’s gone back to parent club Ipswich Town meaning Ben Gordon will come in.

Cardiff City have refused Rhys Healey permission to feature but fellow loanees Kemar Roofe and George Moncur are free for involvement.

Ahead of the game U’s boss Tony Humes told BBC Essex: ‘The Cup brings a bit of excitement and it means a lot to everybody.

‘Historically we’ve not had a great few years in the Cup so we want to shake that up.

‘It’s up to us to make sure the players are prepared and their attitude is spot on. We need to go out, give Gosport the respect they deserve but not forget why we’re there and what we’re there to do.

‘They’ll play with freedom and sometimes the favourites tighten up. Gosport will have an extra 15% so we need to apply ourselves.

‘It’s going to be a great experience for our young players and they need to deal with everything which is thrown at them.’
