Team Of Week One? Not One Of U`s!

Not one Colchester United player made it the League One team of the week, despite a club-record league victory at Norwich the weekend.

Don`t call me a taxi but you can call me biased if you like. It`s been done before now! Still, you`d think that some players in a side that`d just rolled over one of the favourites for promotion in 2009/10 might feature, wouldn`t you?

There`s a – cue shameless plug on behalf of the Official Site and all over-zealous Ipswich Town fans – DVD due out, and everything!

Now, some of the selections are easy to agree with – Jermaine Beckford scored two very classy gaols for Leeds United against Exeter last weekend and Gillingham forward Simon Jackson also looked very sharp, for example.

That no U`s man makes the League One select XI this week implies not that Colchester played as exceptionally as the scoreline suggests, but actually shows Norwich must have had a mare. It`s a fact that pride couldn`t possibly allow us to admit on these pages.

But the City-U`s derby game was an astonishing away win; an annihilation beyond all expectation, I hear you cry. I do sympathise…

What`s that? You`re a disgruntled Norwich City fan, fed up with reading about the weekend`s football. Ah, you belong of the Canary mafia and are waiting to bundle me into that clichéd taxi mentioned at the top of this article…

I`ll get my Blue and White striped coat!

    Scandalous really.

As the article says, I’m totally baised and going on blind faith because our allocation was sold and no-one at Vital got to the City game. Maybe it was a day of luck more than skill, that 7-1 win!

We are, always have been and always will be what you may term as an ‘unfashionable’ side and rarely get the recognition we deserve. Most of the coverage of Saturdays game seemed to focus on Norwich losing 7-1 and not us winning 7-1 if that makes sense.

Yes, it does seem that way. Although not on Vital! We were proud to boast about the victory, because, of course thses things can’t last forever. Norwich responded very well, so maybe that kind of a starting game has done them a favour. Would still have expected one / some of our lads in team of the week, however.
