The local Colchester Gazette newspaper has announced that Marc Tierney will follow in the footsteps of former favorite sons Kevin Watson (now Luton coach) and Karl Duguid (Plymouth) by penning a weekly club column.

The first instilment today is the clearest indication for some weeks that Tierney`s up-in-the-air future has been resolved, after some initial dispute over delayed contract talks with the former Oldham and Shrewsbury man.

Previous manager Aidy Boothroyd had admitted Tierney would be sold this summer if he failed to agree an extension on his current contract which expires at the end of the season and he had been linked with a move to Coventry in the Sunday People following Boothroyd`s switch there.

Tierney is also admired by another ex-U`s boss, Paul Lambert and this also put Norwich in the picture, but the young defender was also linked to Championship Sheffield United and Middleborough.

With the Essex club announcing that no bids were received for their player as an aside in the press conference unveiling John Ward to replace Boothroyd, the very latest news -albeit in slightly coded form – is that Tierney intends to stay.
