Transfer News : Coyne Set To Depart

CLUB CAPTAIN Chris Coyne has confirmed to an Australian newspaper that his Colchester United career is coming to a premature end.

The 30-year-old centre-half has struggled to make the impact hoped since his, then record-transfer, move to the U’s. Former boss Geraint Williams splashed out £350,000 on Coyne but his constant international commitments have caused a number of problems.

Coyne is currently on international duty and revealed that the U’s had agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent. After penning a three-and-a-half deal when arriving from Luton Town, in January 2008, would have left him with two years still to run.

Speaking to Aussie newspaper The Herald Sun, he admitted: ‘It’s probably in my best interests to move on now.’

However, Coyne is unsure where his next move will take him.

‘Whether it’s coming back home, playing in Asia or continuing in Europe . . . it’s something that needs addressing,’ he said.

‘A new manager (Paul Lambert) comes in with new ideas, and he wants new players. The fact that I was going away regularly with the Australian camps was also an issue,’ Coyne added.

Vital Colchester would like to wish Chris the best of luck in the rest of his career.

So are you glad to see the back of Coyne?
