Colchester United have today confirmed the departure of player-coach Gary Holt.

The 36-year-old arrived at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, during July, being drafted in by former boss Paul Lambert. However, after failing to make an official appearance in a U’s shirt, Holt and manager Aidy Boothroyd have decided a move away is the right move.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Boothroyd said: ‘Gary came to see me and said he thought it would be best for both parties for him to move on.

‘I know Gary from our time at Norwich and there was no animosity, I respect his decision.’

With Lambert now at Norwich City, one of Holt’s former sides, it could well see the pair reunite.

‘We have parted on good terms and I will wish him well for the future,’ Boothroyd added.

Thought this move would have come earlier. What odds on Guy move next, provided he is fit. Would be good for him as I feel his chances of a first team place are very limited.

This comes as no surprise, was a bit of a strange signing in the first place

Gosh! That was quick. Hardly a Sol Campbell episode, though… was a Lambert man however and seemed to be training on his own a lot since PL left.

Yep – he was never really going to play regularly, or at all, we have better. And seems like he aint needed as a coach. He’ll go to Norwich. Goodbye and good luck!

  • Matt_Us says:

He is free to go despite any potential ban because he isn’t ours anymore!
