COLCHESTER UNITED have made their third loan signing in the space of two days, with Karl Hawley joining.

The Preston North End front-man will spend an initial four-weeks at the Weston Homes Community Stadium after failing to start a league game for The Lilywhites this season. Yesterday Vital Colchester reported that the U’s had swooped to sign Ashley Vincent, click here, and fellow North End man Neal Trotman on loan, click here.

U’s boss Paul Lambert has been quick to bolster the U’s attacking options after a number of injuries to forward players.

Hawley turned out for the U’s League One rivals Northampton earlier in the season, during a loan spell at Sixfields.

The Walsall-born forward joined Preston from Carlisle United in June 2007, penning a three-year deal at Deepdale.

The former England ‘C’ international helped hoist The Cumbrians up the Football League ladder with his first-class scoring record at Brunton Park.

Hawley goes straight into Lambert’s squad for tomorrow’s tough trip to Leicester City.

Vital Colchester would like to welcome Karl and wish him the best of luck in his time with the U’s.
