Transfer News: Holt Pens Double Deal

Colchester United have wrapped up a deal which will see Gary Holt appointed in a player-coach role.

Holt, 36, who played under manger Paul Lambert at Wycombe Wanderers, arrives at the Weston Homes Community Stadium primarily in a coaching role. However, he will also be registered as a player for the U’s, providing added competition in midfield.

Lambert told the U’s official website: ‘I think he will be great on the coaching side of things for us.

Holt, as reported here, click here, was given the chance to impress last night against Heybridge Swifts, as the U’s continued their pre-season campaign. The former Norwich City man played the last twenty-or-so minutes at Scraley Road.

Lambert, who is a big fan of Holt, concluded: ‘He will be here to help the younger kids coming through with Joe and help with the first team coaching as well. I can also use him if need be as a player and I know that he won’t let me down.’

Vital Colchester would like to welcome Gary to the club and wish him the best of luck.
