Experienced Reading striker Dave Mooney has joined Colchester United on an initial six-month loan contract as a replacement for Clive Platt.
The U`s were looking to bolster their options up front following Platt`s move to Coventry. Recent moves in the market also saw them lose former Hamilton Academicals man Joel Thomas (contract termination), the once-popular Kevin Lisbie (Ipswich / Millwall, expired loan) and Scott Vernon (freed, Aberdeen).
Mooney`s arrival therefore will be welcome, especially given that he is someone familiar with both the area – having previously turned out for Norwich – and League One`s division itself, where he played for Charlton last term, also on loan.
Ward is a long-term admirer of Mooney`s footballing ability, admitting he tired to sign the player before Reading beat him to it in 2008.
The 25-year-old has also played for Stockport County (loan) during his professional career.

VITAL COLCHESTER; YOUR VOICE, YOUR CHOICE!
VITAL COLCHESTER IS 100% UNOFFICIAL – FOR THE FANS, BY THE FANS!
We replace a couple of goal shy strikers with a goal shy striker! I think we were looking at him a few years ago in our relegation season when he was scoring alot over in Ireland. Charlton fans weren’t too impressed with him last season I don’t think.
