Colchester United boss Aidy Boothroyd has moved to bring in added defensive options with the capture of Morten Knudsen.

The 23-year-old Norwegian arrives at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on a free transfer following a thorough trial with the U’s. Knudsen is comfertable on either side of the U’s defensce and will challenge both first-teamers Marc Tiereny and John White.

Speaking about Knudsen, Boothroyd told the club’s official website: ‘He has been brought to my attention and I like what I’ve seen of him in training.’

Boothroyd has emphasised his desire to slim-line the U’s squad, however, he admitted Knudsen was too good too miss.

‘I know I have previously said that it is important that we don’t have too many players at the club, but sometimes you have to grab opportunities when you can. Morten is a really good prospect, who I hope can break into the team during the rest of this season,’ he added.

Vital Colchester would like to welcome Morten and wish him the best of luck in his time here.
