&widthColchester United today announced their second signing of the January transfer window, with loan ace John-Joe O’Toole penning a permenant contract.

The 21-year-old combative midfielder has represented himself well during a four-month loan spell in North Essex; so the new of the transfer is no big surprise. Boss Aidy Boothroyd, who is a big fan of the Irishman, has reiterated his desire to keep O’Toole for longer time and time again.

The highly-rated O’Toole arrives from parent club Watford, a side currently feeling the financial pinch. He has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the U’s, although o details of the fee involved have so far been released by the club.

“He has been brilliant since he has been here and I was always keen to sign him permanently,” Boothroyd told the U’s official website.

Forward Kayode Odejayi has already agreed a full-time transfer, a move that is likely to be signed, sealed and delivered sometime today.

And Boothroyd, commenting on the Odejayi deal too, was understandably delighted: “We have got two new signings at the club for the start of January and I am delighted.”

However, on a sour note comes the news that O’Toole – who picked up his tenth yellow card of the season against Southampton – will miss the next two games.

Vital Colchester would like to congratulate John-Joe on his permenant move and wish him the best of luck in his time here.

Young, knows where the goal is and is a player Aidy can make play! Also had experience at a higher level – more than happy that he has replaced Hammond, albeit with a different style of play in the middle of the park. Would like it if he could keep up current form and don’t mind if he doesn’t score much so long as he works hard and the side wins!

Yeah, really happy with this. Top player who is only going to get better. Glad to see the club getting their transfer business done as quickly as possible.

I agree, Terrier24. But I’m not sure on the fee. I guess it’s of no impotence since he has now been bought!

i’d guess at around 250k given Watfords financial predicament. Very happy at his signing, can remember when he first came on the scene with Watford and was well impressed with him then thinking he would go on to play at the top of the english game.

Yeah, me too. First year or so at Watford – I thought this lad looks good and he and is being linked with a lot of top teams! Delighted to get him in! [Edited by MattUs]
