Colchester United have completed the signing Hamilton Academical striker Joel Thomas.

The Frenchman leaves New Douglas Park following an unsuccessful 12-months with the Scottish Premier League side, after the U’s agreed a fee of £125,000. And following a routine medical, Thomas has put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, to become the U’s sixth summer signing.

U’s boss Paul Lambert will be relieved to finally bolster his attacking option after missing out on several targets, including League Two hotshot Grant Holt in recent weeks.

The 22-year-old front-man could feature against Aston Villa in a pre-season friendly at the Community Stadium tonight.

Thomas’ Accies team-mate Richard Offiong is also a reported target for the U’s but seems less keen on the move South.

Vital Colchester would like to welcome Joel and wish him the best of luck throughout his U’s career.
