Notts County, overseen by former England and Manchester City manager, Sven Goran Eriksson, have swooped to sign have swooped to sign U`s midfielder, Johnnie Jackson, on a free transfer.

Director of Football Sven has had a questionable involvement as a relativity free-rein of spending since the arrival of new owners in June sees them “using a sledgehammer to crack a nut,” in League Two, according to BBC Essex Sport producer, Glenn Speller.

Jackson joins the list of new names, such as former Oldham striker Lee Hughes and Manchester City stopper, Kasper Schmeichel, swapping shirts for first-team football, plus presumably some Arabian-acquired billions.

Jackson was released from his Colchester contract, having agreed terms with County on Friday, following a high-profile dispute over the position he should play his season under boss, Paul Lambert.

The Scot claimed he wanted the former U`s Player of The Year to remain in Essex but still played him as a reserve in pre-season against lowly Clacton FC.

Although plenty of talk amongst U`s fans will centre on A) why he was dropped B) how much money he is now on and C) just how many goals he can grab at a lower level, the fact remains that Jackson was loyal to Colchester United, versatile on the pitch, and also had an eye for finishing.

Jackson, who was originally signed on loan as a left-back by ex-boss Phil Parkinson, was frozen out this season by Lambert and has left in search of first-team football.

Why does everyone keep saying; Sven Goran Eriksoon won his first game for Notts Coutny, or he has signed this player etc. It was Ian McParland. It gets me so annoyed. McParland IS THE MANAGER not Sven. Sorry about my rant I had to do on one board! My apoligies. PS: you guys have had a great start could be darkshorses.

GUTTED!!! should easily be the best midfielder in L2 and way too good for that level. By all accounts he is on similar money around 1.5K a week

I’ll tell you this for nothing – I wouldn’t work under those conditions, being advised by Sven. But anyway, good point – the news media has been very careful not to say that in the case of Jackson. But being a fanzine designed to encourage debate, it was an informed (or maybe slightly ill-informed) risk I felt able to take. County with Sven and cash is a far more interesting story than it would otherwise be. Fickle creatures, football fans! If there has been an error, however, we at Vital will hold our hands up and report corrections, too.

I know, I know – sorry for your loss, ooohhJohnnieJackson! Don’t cry, old man. The Vital public will answer your call. Jackson on £1,5000-a-week! Very good wage in anyone’s book.
