Colchester United pair Pat Baldwin and Scott Vernon have joined Essex rivals Southend United on loan until the end of the season.
Cultured centre-half Baldwin’s on-off move to fellow League One side Bristol Rovers had looked set to go through in the next few days, however, a move to Roots Hall has now arisen. While forward Vernon – who made a goalscoring return to action, midweek, in the Essex Senior Cup – was being tracked by a number of sides but the Blues’ geographical location looks to have swung the deal.
The news will come as welcome relief for Shrimpers’ fans who has endured a torrid season with the club’s financial situation looking bleak.
U’s boss Aidy Boothroyd has sensibly, as expected, inserted a clause which will rule the duo out of the Essex Derby in little over a weeks time.
Vital Colchester would like to wish Pat and Scott the best of luck in their time with the Blues.
