Colchester United today beat the loan deadline to bring experienced Premier League defender Franck Queudrue to the club.
The Birmingham City left-back – who is 31-years-old – pens a loan deal that emphaisis the U’s intent to win promotion from League One. Queudrue has featured for Middlesborough, Fulham and The Blues during eight or so years in England’s top flight.
‘There were other clubs interested, but they were mid-table sides and I was pleased to join a promotion push,’ Queudrue, speaking to the official website, explained.
Following a groin injury picked up by first-choice left-back Marc Tierney, which will see him out for around two weeks, boss Aidy Boothroyd has moved quickly to fill the void inflicted on the U’s. The promotion-chasing Essex side face a crucial few weeks in the attempts to cement a play-off position – and even relight any lingering hopes of a top two finish.
The Paris-born defender, who can also operate at centre-back, added: ‘I spent eight years in the Premiership and one in the Championship and I know this will be a physical league.
But I am looking forward to playing football and helping Colchester in their promotion push.’
Vital Colchester would like to welcome Franck and wish him the best of luck in his time here.

VITAL COLCHESTER IS 100% UNOFFICIAL – FOR THE FANS, BY THE FANS!
Great news, experienced and better than the old story about Solano! Should be a great addition, right?
Another great move by Sir Aidy – good addition to the squad and bags of experience. Boothroyd must still be up to his ol’ man motivation skills to convince Quedrue to drop down 2 divisions!
Thanks, Dr. Watford! Old man magic indeed, let’s hope he’s a smart capture – right age and could plug gaps, chip in with graft. Great move!
Yep, great coup which looks to have been instiagted fantastically by Aidy. Top signing! Very experienced and have spent a lot of time in the Premier League. …One thing that makes me laugh is he left Fulham because he disagreed with Lawrie Sanchez’s long ball style…! Up the U’s!
Really excited by the prospect of this signing
