James Walker, Lloyd James and Ben Coker are all training with Colchester United in bids to win full-time deals.

The free agents, aged between 20 and 22, are all out of contract. James was unable to win new terms at Southampton, while Walker was let go by Southend follow their recent relegation from League One.

Meanwhile, Coker has already had a reserve outing with the U`s via Bury Town as he was interesting the Essex side at the end of last season.

U`s manager John Ward says the three players will be given “minimum of two weeks” to impress him.

Walker is pretty useless, couldn’t hit a barn door from 10 yards. Southend fans weren’t impressed with him from memory. I think is scoring record is pretty abysmal, worse than Clive Platt’s
