Up The U`s: Cowling`s Ready For More!

Robbie Cowling will continue to champion Colchester United and manager Aidy Boothroyd as the club looks forward to the future after a recent downturn.

Despite the U`s failing to secure League One play-off place after season-long contention, he is not disheartened and has pledged to support his staff financially in the close-season, although did warn the charity could not extend to “a bottomless pit of money.”

“I will do my absolute best to back Aidy. He`s as disappointed as anyone is,” Cowling told the Daily Gazette.

Upon Boothroyd`s arrival last autumn, Cowling said that the side was working towards a three-year plan to elevate and stabilise United at Championship level and it seems he is still very much committed to that plan.

Cowling used a boxing-ring analogy to summaries how he feels about his tenure to date, as first owner and later also Chairman, saying he`d “been taking the punches” for the club.

He was probably alluding to this season`s events as much as anything else, which includes Monday`s tribunal in London. It took place to resolve a compensation dispute with Norwich City over Paul Lambert`s controversial switch.

Cowling succeeded former Chairman Peter Heard, who was given a life presidency after severing sixteen years in the role.
