Colchester United threw away a one goal lead to lose 2-1 at home to high-flying Bristol City, a result that sees Geraint Williams’ men kept off the foot of the table by goal difference.

In a dull first-half Scott Vernon came close to giving the home side the lead but fired over when through on goal. Michael McIndoe saw his free-kick saved by Dean Gerken as the visitors threatened to go into the break in front.

With the second-half still young, Adriano Basso spilled Kevin McLeod`s low drive into the path of Clive Platt who fired in the opening goal. This was the former Mk Dons front-man`s first goal since the turn of the year.

The home fan`s celebrations were cut short, as Dele Adebola rose highest to head home Jamie McAllister`s searching cross. A short while later, McIndoe`s speculative 25-yarder took a wild deflection and looped over the helpless Gerken to give Gary Johnson`s side the lead.

Bradley Orr earned himself a second booking, as the visitors were reduced to ten men. The U`s pressed but could not find a way past the stubborn Bristol back-line; the result leaves Williams` men needing a much needed win against Wolves next Saturday.
