Vital Southend is reporting that last night Scottish side Montrose accepted an undisclosed bid from Colchester United for right-back Stuart Cumming, who is also believed to be a target for the Shrimpers.

Milton Keynes Dons are also said to have had a bid accepted for the 22-year-old. UEFA Cup finalists Rangers and Hibernian are thought to be two more teams looking at Cumming.

Cumming started out as a trainee with Premier League outfit Balckburn Rovers but was released in the summer of 2004. Cumming crossed the boarder to join Scottish Third Division side Elgin City and he went on to feature over 70 times in two season at Borough Briggs. On the 1st July 2006 fellow Third Division side Montrose signed Cumming, who can also play in midfield.

If the U’s did sign Cumming he would challenge Phil Ifil for the U’s right-back spot and would also provide cover down the right of midfield.
