Colchester Chief Executive, Steve Bradshaw, told BBC Radio Essex this lunchtime that they will seek a long transfer embargo to protect their playing staff from being picked off by Paul Lambert at Norwich City.

This is in addition to a fee for Lambert`s services. which Bradshaw said were acquired by City in breach of Football League regulation 20.

The deal Colchester want will be similar to the one imposed between the U’s and Hull City, set in equally acrimonious circumstances when he quit the Essex club in 2006. If imposed, it would mean a block on all Colchester-Norwich deals for the foreseeable future.

The most important people at the Football Club are the fans and they players,” Bradshaw said.

It`s the players which got us to the top of the league and we`ve built this team, as a club, over the last eight or nine months.

We will seek, as part of the compensation clause that no players will be able to leave for Norwich next season.

We want the fans to appreciate how hard we worked to try and keep Paul. The fans here are on to a really good thing.”

At least this is some conciliation news for the U`s on a day when it is certain that skipper, Dean Hammond, will also leave the side and sign for Southampton.
