Colchester United faced some competition for the loan signing of Charlton`s Izale McLeod, and beat Sheffield Wednesday to secure his services for a month.

The 23-year old has openly admitted that he wanted the chance to regain some match sharpness and was motivated by the prospect of paring up with his former MK Dons team-mate, Clive Platt. He presumably wanted to remain near London and sought the opinion of former U`s boss Phil Parkinson, now Charlton assistant, before coming to Essex.

Huddersfield, Crew, Northampton and Barnet were also all allowed to speak to the man who scored fifty four league goals in 104 league starts for the Dons. He made his U`s bow last weekend, coming on in the first half for an injured Karl Duguid.

He has netted just one goal in eighteen appearances since joining Charlton for £1.1 million in the summer.
