Colchester were recently able to announce former Bristol City, and most recently Yeovil, midfielder Joe Edwards as our latest summer signing.

By snapping up the 24-year-old, who was wearing the captains armband for his former side last season as they slipped out on League 1, he became the fourth addition to the squad that Tony Humes has made this summer as the U’s squad continues to develop nicely.

Edwards was part of the Yeovil side that had appeared in the Championship for a season, he was a virtual ever present that season but couldn’t help prevent them from being relegated, which was a fate they suffered for a second successive campaign when they went down last season too.

He left the Somerset based club having played well over a 100-matches in his four-years at Huish Park and will fit nicely into our squad and offer us plenty from midfield during his spell at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The official announcement of his signing didn’t actually confirm the length of contract signed as far as I could see but I guess this would be for a couple of years?
