Colchester United striker Kevin Lisbie is hoping to be fit to face West Brom on Saturday, after the U’s denied speculation he would be out of action for a month.

Lisbie, the U’s top-scorer with 15 goals to his name, limped out of last weekend’s defeat to Norwich with a calf injury and it had been rumoured he would be out for four weeks.

Physio Tony Flynn told CU-FC.com: ‘I don’t know where these rumours came from but I have been with Kevin for the past few days and four weeks has never been mentioned as a time frame.’

U’s manager Geraint Williams also revealed: ‘Kev came off on Saturday as he felt his calf stiffen up and we didn’t want him risking further injury.

‘He has been getting treatment over the past few days and we are expecting him to train before the end of the week with a view to him being available for Saturday’s game against West Brom.’
